JFTrans 55 version 1.71 has just been released. This version fixes a few bugs and also optimizes the code for significantly improved performance. A small self-extracting updater is available for download from the Support Page .
JFTrans 55 has just been released to coincide with the new JFile 5.50. Please visit the Support Page for more information. The previous JFTrans 5 and JFTrans 5 2000 will still be supported for a limited time. The older JFTrans and JFTrans 2000 products designed for JFile versions 3.x and 4.x will no longer be available.
A new product, JFTconv, has just been released. JFTconv is a small utility to convert between Access and JFile 5 databases. Please see the JFTconv Product Page for complete details.
The JFTrans 55 / JFTrans 55 2000 documentation is available in PDF format. The file is optimized for screen display, but can be printed should you want hard copy.
JFTrans 55 / JFTrans 55 2000 User's Guide ( 850 k. / updated Nov. 21, 02 )
JFTrans is a simple PC based front end that reads JFile PDB files, automatically translates them into an Access format database, and then loads them into a fully editable grid for modification or viewing. Any popup list data in the original file is loaded into a dropdown list in JFTrans so that you can easily select the item you want in the current cell. These popup lists can be easily modified within JFTrans. JFTrans also provides tools to easily sort, search or filter the data anyway you want.

JFTrans can seamlessly convert JFile data types to the more efficient Access types, in order to reduce the size of the resulting MDB files, or allow you to do calculations on the Access data that would be impossible within JFile. JFTrans also allows you to modify the field names that are used in the Access database, and translates the two automatically. You can also create a new Access file within JFTrans and define the associated JFile file structure at the same time.
Data from your Pilot can be added to a current Access file, or can replace the data entirely. Any grid layouts you design for a specific view, are retained by JFTrans for the next time you load or look at the data. You can also specify the display formats of various data types that are retained on a file by file basis.
You can easily rebuild and install the JFile PDB file using either the original field names or those used in the Access file. The new PDB can include all records in the database or only those that have been filtered in JFTrans. You can also export the data to another PDB file that can be installed at a later time, or sent to someone else.
JFTrans is designed to run under all versions of Windows.

JFTrans 55 2000 is identical to JFTrans 55 in terms of the feature set and operation. The only difference is that it uses the Access 2000 / XP data engine to read or write Access 2000 or XP format files. It can read any of your current JFTrans or Access 97 databases, and can write MDB files in any Access format.

JFTrans 55 2000 :
JFile is technically not required, but seeing as JFTrans 55 and JFTrans 55 2000 works only with JFile PDB files, it would be somewhat strange to use either product without it, unless you were primarily using it to view data in PDB format that was sent to you by someone else or downloaded from the web.
JFTrans 55 and JFTrans 55 2000 are only fully compatible with JFile 5.50 or greater. Either version can load older JFile 4.x or JFile 5.0x files, but will convert them to the newer JFile 5.5x / 5.6x format. Please be aware that some authors who have posted JFile databases on the web, have modified the internal structure or settings in order to protect the data from duplication. Both versions checks for most of these tricks and will generate error messages for problems that it cannot fix internally.
If you have created your own database on the Pilot, then you should have no problem importing them directly without error.

Download the full version for evaluation. Either version will function for 30 days, to allow you to fully explore the product, after which time it will be disabled. At any time, you can order a copy of JFTrans 55 and enter in a serial code to unlock this release. There is no need to download the full product again. Setup allows you to specify only the components you need for installation, so if you already have Access or JFile on your machine you can choose not to install those components again. Setup also includes a trial version of JFile 5.5x, from Land-J Technologies. These versions are not crippled in any way, nor are you bombarded with shareware reminders and such.
